I recently updated my S4 - I9506 to Jelly Bean 4.3 via OTA software update, was on 4.2.2 previously. My phone is running on stock firmware, not/ never rooted before.

The 4.3 update also required me to upgrade my kies 2.6 to kies 3 as kies 2.6 does not support 4.3 and above.

After the update, I've been having connecting it to my computers. Every time I connect to a computer, the connection notification sound can be heard, but my computer does not detect the connection. Sometimes it says that the usb has malfunctioned or etc...

It's definitely not the cable as I also have a cable that came with my nexus 7, tried connecting with both the samsung and nexus cable, didn't work. Tested both cables with my nexus 7 as well, works fine.

The problem also does not lie with my computer's driver as I have 2 computers, tested with both, still not working.

I tried using a toothbrush to brush off any possible dirt inside the s4 micro usb port. Didn't help.

My best guess it that something went wrong during my 4.3 update which messed up my s4 usb driver. I did not experience such problems when i was on 4.2.2

Right now the only temporary fix is to reboot my phone to get the connection working again, and this effect is only temporary. Which means every time I want to connect to a computer, I have to reboot my s4, which is not normal and quite annoying.

Right now the only permanent solution that I can think off is to do a factory reset on my s4. Anyone have encountered this problem before and have input on this issue that I'm experiencing?

you should try this on different system and see if it does the same thing, if it doesnt just remove samsung drivers and reinstall and install the latest from its website

Download the Samsung Drivers, see if that works. That did it for me with my S3,might be different with an S4 though.I kept getting "Device not recognized" error.

Power off your phone. Power on the phone in Download mode. (Volume Down + Home + Power) Press Volume Up to continue. Once it's in Download mode, plug it into your computer. Windows should now discover it and load the driver. Once this is complete, unplug the phone from the computer, and pull the battery out of the phone to get out of Download mode. Replace the battery, and power on the phone like normal. It should connect to the computer properly.

Mine came preloaded with 4.3 and I have no issues.
