Notes:

I really like the form factor of the Core V1 case so everything is kind of working to ensure a fit within it.  I'm purchasing most of the parts over the next 30-45 days will buy things on sale if I can, so the build ends up being a list of preferred parts that will work together and has evolved as time goes on.    Monitor and graphics card will come later, but I can use the gpu and monitor from existing system to test the rest of the build.  Don't know if there is any benefit to the separate OS drive but the mobo has 2x M.2 slots and windows seems to do a lot in the background these days so why not?  Open to cooling options for the Ryzen, not really a fan of AIO liquid coolers but if that's the only real option for OC in small case I'll seriously consider it though not a lot of radiator space (I want the 200mm front fan.)

Edit:.

I'm in Canada.

Budget: $3000-4000 CAD

Use ca.pcpartpicker.com for a build list. It provides necessary part detail. Use the BB button above the System Builder list to generate a formatted copy.

Purchasing parts over a 6 - 8 month period is not a good idea. If the issue is accumulating funds, save until the entire purchase can be made in a reasonably short period of time. If it is a matter of getting the "best deal", the downside generally outweighs the benefits. The downside being that most merchants have a relatively short return period after which DOA parts have to go through the warranty claim process. Since most parts depend on others, there is little opportunity to verify operation prior to full assembly. Another negative is the pace of new part introductions, over six months it is inevitable that there will be new tech that might have been available had a previous, as yet unused purchase prevent.

I'd suggest a better psu, one without RGB. I suggest forgoing RGB since the case design is such that little if any of it would be visible outside the case. I'd also suggest a lower capacity psu. 550W is likely enough, pcpartpicker can confirm.

The NH-U9S will fit the case and do a better cooling job.

Thanks for the response.  In hindsight my statement regarding the timeline was a little misleading.  The majority of the components will be bought in a short timeframe 30-45 days, the two biggest expenses (the VGA and fancy new monitor) will be separate and spaced out a little more.  Was also thinking of a seasonic power supply, I've heard good things about them.  I hadn't bothered with pcpartpicker since I source most of my parts from a local ship that I like to support and that generally has competitive prices.  Though if the site standard is to use pcpartpicker for the list I will certainly do that.

EVGA Supernova G3 550W?  It seems to be well reviewed.  It's been years since I built my last PC so I'm just now catching up on sorting out the quality in everything that's available now, especially since even reliable brands seem to have the occasional bad units too.

I'm also thinking about going wth 32GB of ram, not for gaming but for the other 20% usage of video editing and fractal art generation.  With only two dimm slots on the mini itx board I should probably get the 32 now if it will benefit.  Any thoughts?

The G3 is less well regarded.

The Focus Plus line is fine, although the RMX would be a better choice at the moment. Some reviewers feel that some of the protection levels on the Focus Plus are not ideal, see https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/seasonic-focus-plus-gold-850-psu,5247-6.html.
