So I wanted to upgrade my i5-8400 with 1070 Ti and 16GB RAM to an i7-8700K, will this be worth it for gaming? I only game on this PC.

I currently play GTA V, Battlefield V, and the new CoD once it comes out.

I plan on upgrading my GPU next, to an RTX or something newer once Nvidia releases it.

Edit: I also play on 144Hz.

With the 1070Ti the upgrade to the CPU wouldn't result in a huge boost, but with a stronger GPU it would. So, if you plan on upgrading the GPU soon, then go with the CPU upgrade.

Make sure you have a cooler in mind too. 8th gen i7s aren't exactly known for their low heat. Mine runs at 80-90C on high end air when in working on a render

Do you think a Cryorig H7 is capable enough to push some OC?

Basically better cpu means higher frame rate caps.. I was using i5-8400 with 1080ti. Now with r5-3600 i am seeing %15-%20 fps cap improvement. In bf5 with it was 120-140fps now it is ranging between 150-165fps (My monitor is capped at 165hz). 8700k should be %20-%25 better overall. If you are playing at 60fps even i3-8130 is enough for almost every game.

Don't bother.

If you got the 8700k instead of the 8400 it deft would have been worth it but now you're paying almost the same price for a two year old product and losing out on all the time you could have had an 8700k on top of the loss from buying the 8400.

Use it till it dies IMO

Not suggesting you get an 8700k now, but, I kept my 8700k at 1.3v cool with an H7 QL (very slightly better than regular H7) and 4.8ghz before ddlidding. It was very toasty during stress tests, but in actual use it was fine.

It will be toasty. I advise not overclocking unless you decide. The absurd temps of 8th gen aren't worth the MHz. Unless you are making money with it (like I am), don't bother since it's just not worth the noise and heat

Why not save the money for a better build later?

Main System: Ryzen 2700, Asus Crosshair VII Hero, EVGA GTX 1080ti SC, 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz CL14, CM H500, CM ML240L cpu cooler.

Second System: Ryzen 2400G, Gigabyte B450 DS3H, RX 580 Nitro+, Kingston A400 SSD, Team T-Force 3200mhz CL15

If it ain't overclocked it ain't good...
