Need advice!

Hey first time here, treat me *gently*! But anyway i need some advice on what CPU to get for my next upgrade. I have a max budget of $150. i am considering the AMD r5 2600 which is about $135 where I live. But i was curious if there was a Intel CPU that has similar performance at the same price? Because I heard that Intel CPU's are better for gaming if you have a dedicated GPU(which i do GTX 1050 ti d5 4gb). And any recommendations on a MOBO will be SUPER helpful as well. much appreciated!

1. The i5-9400f is comparable in price, but it lacks two important features, overclockability, and simultaneous multi-threading. Depending on the application, the latter feature can be very significant in performance delta. The 2600 is a good chip and personally, I would try to score either a 2700 (8-core, 16 thread) for more flexibility (streaming, etc.) or a 3600 (6 core, 12 thread, newer architecture) for more pure performance.

 

2. Your GPU will hold you back in either case.

I currently have a R3 2200 g overclocked to 3.85, on the stock cooler.

I doubt upgrading your CPU is going to help too much with a 1050 ti

 

Some games might have better minimums going up to a higher core count chip, but you're definitely GPU limited.

So Gpu first? The reason i was going to do CPU first was i was planning on getting a new MOBO im using a ASUS prime A320m-K. It doesn't have the best features and i though it would be best to get a good base first then expand. My plan was MOBO, CPU, GPU, RAM. But any advice on how i should go about it would be awesome! Thanks for even commenting lowkey i didn't think anybody would respond to my plea haha

If I were you, I'd grab a used Ryzen 5 1600 for $60-$80 and a Radeon 5700 for $350.

 

Ride those out for a few years, imo.

Hmm. I cant get a used one since where I live the used market is dead. Like really. So i have to get new. Would the 1600 still be a good value? And the Gpu is a little expensive to be honest hehe

It would *probably* be fine with a stock 1600 and honestly dumping money into a new motherboard and new CPU (~$300-350) won't give you the results you want with still using the 1050ti.

 

Personally, I'd stretch the most out of it and get an $80 1600 and upgrade your GPU to even a $250 level card like a 1660 and you will get much more out of your money. 

 

Then, in a year or two get everything new.

 

That's my opinion anyway.

Keep your CPU, buy new GPU, buy all-new CPU/MOBO during Ryzen 4000 imo.

Hmm. That sounds like good idea. But I also wanted to start upgrading because i was planning on gifting this system to my younger siblings so they can stop using my computer

In that case, just start saving and build yourself an entire new one during Ryzen 4000 next year and just give them the whole old one.

 

Assuming it would take that long to accumulate the extra necessary components anyway.

Ahh, I already have a case for them. And have a PSU lined up. Monitor? Havent decided on a specific one yet, know any good 1080p 75hrz panel for a good price?. Peripherals plan on getting some some.

If you have enough extra parts, and your goal is not just an upgrade for the sake of upgrading, but to give you a second system:

 

Give them the 2200g with the mobo and RAM and use iGPU.

 

Buy a 3600 for $200, b450 tomahawk $115, some 2x8 ddr4 3200 $100, keep using the 1050 ti until you can afford a new GPU.

 

Your performance won't be hugely improved while still using the 1050 ti, but it gives you a second system and you can upgrade whenever.

 

You could get the 2600 but if the goal is to upgrade GPU down the line, the 3600 will give you more time.

Thats actually almost exactly what i had planned lol. I was going to get a new CPU,MOBO and some RAM. And give these to them haha. And once i regain my money(after selling some organs ofc) I would get a new GPU since I knew this one would definitely hold me back. But i was having a hard time choosing one. And I heard that there are some good Intel ones. But arent they not a good value right now?

I'm an Intel fan but even I wouldn't buy anything they currently have to offer.
