Greets!

Old IT guy here who has built his systems since the first x286 until my last which gave me a great 7 to 8 years of longevity.

Prior system was an ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition w/ Intel i7 4930k and numerous nVidia cards through its life.  I can't seem to get VCore up high enough to boot and be stable.  This CPU has always wanted more VCore and I have typically run it at 1.4v+ for the much of it's life without issues.  Seems now even going 1.45v it boots but VCore quickly drops to 1.05v and it locks up.  Just not sure what else I can check as I've done multiple ASUS Flashback and clear's on the BIOS but still; she's having issues.  Cannot feel bad getting as many years as I have out of her but alas, I may need to move on.

Currently looking at the ASUS Strix E w/ i9 9900k and re-using my existing 1080, SSDs and Case (Corsair Obsidian 750D) and adding in some M.2 Drive(s) since my it's new since my last board.  While money is not tight on this build I would like to get away, as I have always tried, with as top-end as I can without busting the bank.  What I have currently (1 day panic mode) is:

  Intel i9 9900k

  ASUS Strix E Gaming

2x16 3200 DDR4 (may go faster but price, eek!)

  2tb Samsung Evo M.2 SSD

As I've stated, I'm try to reuse most of what I can and my Noctua DS15S air cooler and the Corsair case should be fine but just looking for a reality check here.  Is there better? Is there any gotchas knowing what I have?  I've been trying to decide between the STRIX E and the AORUS Ultra and being in a Panic Mode, where I use my PC for both work and play; I don't want to make any mistakes and order what I can and get a rebuild done within a weeks time hopefully.

  Thanks in advance to everyone!

Can't really put much input for which motherboard you can use as I don't shop high end, but I'll let you know that RAM prices are really good right now. YOu go like 2 years back when I first built a PC on the DDR4 platform and they were around 50% higher due to shortages. Black Friday is also right around the corner :D so it might be worth waiting just a bit longer and see what kind of deals pop up.

I can't think of much better than the DS15S, if it can keep my 3900X cool I doubt there will be much issues with the 9900K.

Other than the classic RAM clearance issues that could pop up with it. ?

Yeah, that's a concern of mine as well.. the cooler and the case.  Currently, with the my RIVBE it just fits all too well and I worried for a week before just buying and trying.  Hoping it works well with this build in the same case again.  Thanks!

Yeah, down 2 days now and going crazy without a system so pretty sure I'm not going to take nearly a 2 month wait any better, lol :D  Good thinking tho and had the chance and a system to use in the meanwhile, it would be a viable tactic.  Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose I guess.
