So i just upgraded my cpu from a 8600k to a 9700k and gpu from a 1070 to 2080. After switching both of them and starting the pc back up again my video drivers weren’t detected so i go to nvidias website to download drivers again but as soon as i run the installer my pc freezes. Also i checked my cpu usage and it’s constantly at 60%-90% while idling and i hear my gpu fans kick up as soon as it freezes. Only way to get out of it is to turn off the computer. On restart it boots into my bios saying it couldn’t boot properly because the previous settings can’t work with the current hardware, but the only thing i had was xmp1 for the memory. Even when in windows recovery mode it freezes and also my aorus recovery screen it freezes sometimes. Please help

UPDATE:

so i just put my 8600k back in and everything seems normal, no freezes or anything. does that mean i have a defective 9700k?

are you on the latest bios?

This could be caused by running the previous installation of Windows, instead of doing a fresh install after upgrading.

If you notice freezing in Aorus Recovery or the BIOS, you might to reset the CMOS.

After doing these, make sure to update to the latest BIOS version available.
