Also regarding a mesh system; we have about 10 devices running at a time on wifi. Would a mesh system be able to handle the load of all those devices at once?

Yes it shouldn't have any problem with that. I mean I think just disabling your wifi and going with a mesh might give you the best wifi performance. A really good wifi router with high range is going to set you back at last 120 or so. So if you can just toss a cheap mesh on and gain the range and speed benefits... then I think that is a good route.

Alternatively you probably don't have the latest and greatest gateway device from your ISP. So if you pay a monthly rental fee for it I would take it in and trade it for the latest and greatest which would also increase your wifi range significantly depending on the age of your current gateway.

I'm having issues with getting a strong connection in different parts of the house. I also get "Internet May Not Be Available" messages on my devices from time to time even though the bars are full. I am using my ISP's router that was given to me and have 2 other cheap routers around the house set up as access points. These are becoming a nuisance having to connect to a different router every time I get a low signal. So I was wondering if investing in a better router would help both the issues of wifi range and the missing internet issues.

The house is 3 stories and around 6500 sqft, I would like to get a connection on all 3 floors. Router and modem setup are on middle floor. Thanks

That or investing in a nice mesh system.

What's a good router you'd recommend, or a reasonably price mesh network? I've heard about mesh networks but don't understand how they work

I mean this is tricky to answer as there are LOTS of good routers it just depends on your budget. I think I would try to figure out my budget then look at what options were available to me in that segment. I mean you can get a cheap linksys mesh setup for like 75 bucks or spend 200 or more for a higher end one.

Same goes for wifi routers. Depending on your setup and if you need lan connections I would probably just disable the wifi on my current router and plug in the mesh to it so you can retain a few lan ports. I say this because it isn't clear if the Linksys velop can function as a firewall/router so I can't tell if bridge mode for your main gateway would be worth it.

I do need 2 lan connections by the main router for a desktop. Rest of the devices run on wifi. When looking for a router is there a certain criteria I should be looking for? Or just go for one of the more gamery streaming routers. I'd prefer to get a system for no more than $200 if it'll fix all my problems. Also any brands I should stay away from?
