I'm in a program with the VA that sends veterans to school. As part of that program, you can request a computer. You can specify specs, and even specific systems made by 'major manufacturers', but I couldn't simply buy the parts from Newegg and get reimbursed. (At least, it's 1000% easier to just specify a system made by HP or Lenovo.)

My budget is 'in the range of' $2000. I need to include a monitor in this price too. I'll be doing rendering for Industrial Design, and maybe some gaming as I have time. But the major purpose of this machine will be designing in CAD software. Another goal of this is to pick a good system for upgradability. For example, one that uses standard sized mobo so that if I transfer it to a new case in the future there won't be issues. Also, I like the idea of AMD and their new processor architecture, sticking within that series. That way even if I get a slower processor, I could cheaply upgrade down the line. Normally I'd be building the system, but I don't have the flexibility to do that, so I hope to find a system that won't be hard to upgrade.
