gpu with Gsync vm passtrough/requirements

Im thinking about migrating from windows to linux on Ryzen (currently an r5 1600x, switch to r7 3700x likely)

I want to have a "gaming vm" running for my games with my gtx 1080 as a passtrough gpu.

I need to buy a host gpu, but I dont know which one, because i want to keep gsync.

Is this even possible?

Why not just dual boot Linux and Windows? That would be a lot simpler and not need any additional hardware.

I just dont want to reboot and switch on the fly.
