I need ideas for lighting. I have a U-shaped room that my parents are redoing and its almost 400 square feet. (Yes I share the room with a brother) In one half of the room, the ceiling is slanted because I live in a cape styled house. This makes it difficult to come up with lighting. My parents have no idea what they want. any ideas?

I have one of those low profile fit in the ceiling LED lights. Its suppose to last 25 years and its dimmable. Your best bet its to go to Home Depot, Lowes or Menards and go down the lighting isles. Because this is a shared space, you might want to get some kind of Lamps that you each can put in your areas, to control lights in each side of the room.

Also I have one of those light switches with the wireless remote. Its nice, I have it mounted next to my bed and can control the lighting levels from there or from the wall switch. But I would HIGHLY suggest going LED, they have are WAY more energy efficient. We have saved a Metric SHIT ton on our electrical bill by switching like 98% of or lights over the LED.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

You have recessed lighting throughout your room?

I have one light. My room is like 12x8. So its pretty small. But you could do recessed lighting through out. They even have recessed lighting that is point able, as in you can point the light where you want it. The biggie is to go LED for energy savings. You might consider a dimmable version if you like low light levels like I do.

do you know if there are any reliable cheaper versions of Philips Hue bulbs for the lights? I can't afford $50 per bulb

Not sure. Like I said, my light is integrated in to my fixture. Meaning when the LED burns out I have to replace the whole thing. In about 25 years or so.

What are you looking to accomplish with the Philips Hue style Lights?

They make RGB LED strips that act as "Mood" lighting for TV's and such. Walmart sells it. Id personally go for practical lighting for the room. As it would be more cost effective.

https://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng.do?search_query=LED lighting strips This is the category on Walmart.com. Im sure you can find them else where as well.

Personally Id go with maybe some LED recessed lights, maybe a few due to the size of the room. Maybe look at a dimmer switch as well, its nice to have adjustable lighting. Then do some LED strips around the areas of your room you want them.

I could suggest just a long LED strip routed throughout the rim of your room, then put something to spread the light to make it look fancy.

Yea I basically want to finish this by the end of September and I am wiring the whole room myself. Should be fun. Right now the room is gutted. Nothing but studs and some outlets are wired.
