Posted September 1, 2019 Hi All, Just canvassing opinions, Build a i9 9900k now - or hold off until the next Intel refresh? I'm re-purposing my i7 7700 as a media pc / machine for my better half. Posted September 1, 2019 might as well shoot for a 3700X, it's basically an i9 9900K for cheaper. On what information are you stating that they're "only refreshing the i7 through i3" ? I'd like to know how valid it is. Posted September 2, 2019 Author AMD is something i've not ruled out - the reason why i9 9900k vs AMD was mainly due to motherboard availability locally. Why does it need to be available locally? Are you not in the US? Otherwise no point in shopping via PCPartPicker as it'll find you the best deal online. Do you have concerns about buying online? Keep in mind with AMD you run far less risk with motherboards as they don't have the PINs on them, they're on the AMD CPUs, so the risk is opposite that of Intel. Posted September 8, 2019 Author I'm in the UK unfortunately rather than the US. I tend to with any significant purchases rely on a local PC specialist int eh event of any issues. I ended up picking up a i9 9900 KF - extremely happy with the upgrade. And the better half has decided to keep the previous machine for herself - which is something i wasn't expecting!
