Posted August 28, 2019 Hi! I'm looking into a better networking setup than what we currently have at home. Please have a look at my humble diagram: Right now internet comes from Broadband to a router on the east side of ground floor of the house, and the Netgear is at my desk on the west side of first floor. DHCP reservations are set up for all our devices and everything that does 5GHz only connects to 5GHZ (including my phone). Everything wired works flawlessly, however, WiFi in my part of the house is really bad. My phone regularly switches to data at my desk and in my bedroom WiFi is unusable. I'm therefore looking into a suitable WiFi solution. The current considerations are A) A new WiFi router to replace the Archer B) a dedicated AP after the Archer to handle all WiFi devices, possibly placed in a better position to cover the house (and garden on the west side) better. C) a WiFi extender I personally lean most towards option B, but the TP-Link is kinda starting to get old, especially in GUI and user experience in settings, and most of all the prospect of "construction work" drilling cable holes towards a perfect spot is not a thrilling one for my parents. What would you knowledgeable people recommend? My budget is at max. 200€, and I prefer devices from ASUS, TP-Link and Ubiquiti, but am open to other suggestions. Posted August 28, 2019 Getting a pair of ASUS routers that support their AI mesh is almost certainly the most effective way to get the job done. If I were in your position, I'd do that and then keep the Archer tucked away somewhere as a backup or even to tuck it somewhere to be its own isolated guest device network.
