I went to add a new hdd to my pc and I looked at the back of my ssd and the power cable was disconnected. I have a 250gb Samsung ssd as my boot drive and a 1tb seagate HD’s for everything else. I just booted up my pc 5 minutes ago on the ssd but I’m clueless as to how it’s been working without the power cable because as far as I know sata is only used for data not power, or did I totally miss the mark. Thanks

The cable you are holding in your hand is a SATA power cable. SATA power cables will often have multiple SATA power connectors on them, for connecting multiple SATA devices. Any unused connectors can just hang loose in the case.
The SATA Data cable which connects to the motherboard is the smaller cable plugged in to the SSD above the power cable, with the white connector in that photo.
