So I decided to start folding yesterday and it was all going smoothly and everything was fine, but when i woke up this morning, nothing would load. My computer is still folding without the client, but none of the buttons work so I can't stop folding or change power settings. I havent uninstalled it yet because my computer is still folding

i had the same problem when I did FAH client too. The only thing that would work was the touch screen for me. I couldn’t close anything, open anything or do anything else. I had to force shutdown my computer and restart, that’s what I would do.

Are you able to open the F@H advanced control in the task bar? Right click the F@H icon and select "Advanced Control". See if that lets you view the status of your work units. You can also check the Log tab to see if there are any error messages.

HI @Spotty, I am having the same problem and yes, I can always access the advanced control panel without issue...

It seems to be an intermittent problem as sometimes it does connect and works fine, but most of the time the page just gets caught in an endless refresh loop. closing & reopening doesn't help either. I don't know if the fact that the Protein Viewer has never connected might have anything to do with it?

Shutting down and restarting the client, or PC (Laptop) has no effect either... It really does seem truly random when it chooses to connect.

Are you talking about the Web Control where it shows you the control panel in your web browser? This...?

That has known problems in the Chrome web browser where it will get stuck reloading. Best thing to do is use Firefox, though if you use Incognito mode (private browsing) in Chrome that works as well. You can also use F12 in chrome to bring up the tools and force a refresh, though it'll start happening again and you'll have to keep doing it that way.

No, that's a separate issue. The viewer doesn't work in the most recent version of Folding@home on Windows - it will just get stuck on Connecting... and with the Demo loop playing. It works in the Linux and MacOS version of F@H just the Windows version is busted.

There is a fix for it, but it's not really worth it...

It is possible to get it to work on Windows by using the older versions fahviewer.exe and files but it's honestly not that interesting and it tanks your folding performance so it's not recommended to run it while folding anyway.

But if you really want to get it to work
Download the older 7.4.4 client

Extract the files from the installer with 7zip

copy the FahViewer.exe and Freetype.dll (or Freetype6.dll?) in to C:\Program Files (x86)\FAHClient folder replacing the older files.

Restart the client

There's also a github that has the fixed fahviewer files which I've found to be more stable.

Many thanks, I will give it a try... I had switched to Opera and it worked for quite a while without problem, but now it's just the same... guess this is because it's Chromium based ;)

I will give it a whirl in FF - Thanks :)

EDIT----

Worked straight away with no problem :D thanks again 👍🏽
