Hi guys,

This is my current build:

And lately I've been thinking about switching my current CPU to i7-8700k.

From what I can tell, it seems that I should just be able to switch out the CPU (if I do decide to get the i7-8700k) without having needing to reinstall windows or change other hardware, but I just wanted some extra assurances that I can do that without running into problems, so: will I have to reinstall windows if I do switch the i5-8500 for the i7-8700k?.Another question that I have is: is it worth changing? Should I just wait for newer stuff to come out before upgrading? (Newer stuff being next gen i7 CPU/motherboard/GPU).

Thanks!

You shouldn't have any problems. I went from an i3 to an i7 in my office CAD machine with zero issues. You will see an improvement for sure, probably not worth changing you whole setup for something newer. Just remember to clean off the old and apply some new thermal paste.
