I will try taking the laptop apart now to check connectors, but it seems there is power in it so I'm not sure

It could be a damaged data port. The DVD uses SATA, a notoriously fragile connector.

Me (2h ago):  Lenovo Z70-80 doesn't see cd drive. It seems that cd drivers have been uninstalled somehow, and windows doesn't install them back automatically.

I can't see it in device manager. (screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/Bv0H5op) [there are some usb drives idk]

I tried microsoft's troubleshooting guide but it's not helping. I've tried other online guide (like this one https://www.groovypost.com/howto/fix-dvd-cd-drive-not-working-missing-windows-10/) but they do not help either.

I tried bios update, some producer drives (that were actually just power saving software), scans form cmd, editing registry, nothing helped.

In short: nothing works.

I bought a new drive but it's not working. The existing one pops open when clicked at least.

I can't see it in bios either, but on another laptop (same model [both are used in my work]) which had a problem with cd drive too, windows recognizes the drive but I can't open it. It's not visible in bios just like on the first one.

what do I do?  This part is pretty much solved. But now I have a question about the second laptop.

So in 2nd laptop (same model), cd drive broke this Tuesday and we can't open it. It is recognized in windows tho.

As I have the new drive, I installed it, in but windows doesn't recognize the new one.

Could the connector be a problem here as well?
