Making augmented reality glasses

I am going to admit this is not an area of expertise for me however I have been researching different ways of augmented reality and virtual reality. I have been thinking about glasses like you’d see iron man wear etc. I know a lot of that isn’t possible yet but HUD’s and augmented reality is getting better.

 

my idea is oled/LCD panels that serve as the lenses, with a camera to provide the input, much like some planes have where the window is a panel. This would theoretically have advantages already like a zoom idea, being able to see distances the normal eye range couldn’t. This is also means you could put the HUD in the panel, so when a message pops up it just appears onto the panel, rather than needing an external HUD system. 

 

In simple terms, mini TV that show the outside world, with the augmented reality embedded into the system.
