I came across this platform and there seems to be a ton of used server cpus for dirt cheap. It's sandy/ivy bridge based and it seems to be a basterd child of the 2011 (only has 3 ddr channels).

There also appear to be some cheap chinese motherboards (~50$ on aliexpress).

 

CPUs go all the way up to 10 cores.

 

Anyone played with these? With some luck, you can build an 8 core system around this for less than 100$.
