I had some "gaming" software instaled that was throtteling my speed. Took me a while to find it.

My roommates xbox has no problems, as i stated i used the wifi on my phone and that got the speeds you'd expect over wifi otherwise i have no other devices to check on

AFAIK auto-tuning should be on by default.  There was one other person on the forum who said theirs was off by default for some reason and they had speed problems that were solved by turning it on.

You also mention modem, is a modem/router and did the techs tests from that?

the modem is "gigabit ready" and has been tested by the techs and their results showed 970mbs

Hello, I've just spent the past 2 hours of my life searching the never ending universe of the internet and i cannot figure out a solution to my problem and i've never used a forums before. so bare with me.

So i upgraded to Gigabit internet recently and my download speeds are only at 180-200mbs. (the 200 i got by a fluke normally its 180.)

the network card settings are as they should be, speed and duplex 1gbs full deplex, nic settings says 1000mbs.

Cat6 cables, brand new. (50ft)

ive tried using my motherboards built in ethernet port that is rated for 1000mbs (ASrock z270 killer) still capped at 180mbs

The site i use for my tests is run by my ISP themselves. have had techs come check our lines and modem, all good on that part.

A few sites had me pull up the command prompt and see if auto tuning was on, it was disabled by default, didn't change it.

Windows 10

also tried disabling my data on my phone and testing the wifi.... got 550mbs.. disabled ethernet on my pc, tried wifi on pc, still 180mbs

Please help me solve this. im sick of paying for gigibit speeds and not being able to unleash its full power

right so the problem is specific to the PC

-You roommate xbox has a wired or wireless connection? Over wireless it is obviously working, but if he is using wired the problem is specific to the PC unless he is using a different switch.

-If you haven't tried it: boot into safe mode with networking support and check the speed.. just a thought.
