you would need to run Ethernet from your router to each access point (AP) within your home to have 2 spots. Most applications this would be for very large places, businesses/schools/colleges. please note that most consumer wireless routers are not set by default as an ap and will cause more issues when not properly configured.

hopefully this ascii digram will assist you

Finally Linus went the extra mile :)

Both Ap1 and Ap2 will have to be configured with the same SSID and made to not conflict in the network (different IP's) and different channels.

If both AP's are running dd-wrt its very simple to do, they have a thread on their forum explaining how.

Something wrong with your connection ?

Run the damn cable :)

The setup with Ubiquiti AP's way more easy.

You have one PC/server that has the controller software installed on it, you plug the AP's into the same network, you access the control panel on the controller, you set everything up in the control panel and adapt the AP's the to the network.

Some routers allow you to bridge two together wirelessly as well, so the ethernet cable between them may or may not be necessary.
