Old system not posting

okay i found my ancient system that i found in my closet. i clean off the cpu and motherboard and put new thermal paste on the cpu and cooler but now when i try to get the system to post it give me 1 long beep 2 short beeps and i look it up and said GPU issue so tried different gpu and moved the slots around did not work i moved the RAM around cause the MEMok light its on and that didn't nothing i tried a different ram same issue. so if anyone has some insight into the issue i will list the spec down below

 

CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 640

GPU: AMD XFX HD 675X

Motherboard: Asus M4AB7TD EVO

1 long beep and 2 short is a memory problem according to google(1 long 3 short is vga). I've took a look at you boards manual the MEMok led should go off after boot, It only stays lit when it detects a problem.

 

Basic memory troubleshooting:

Clear cmos

Try all 4 slots

Blow out the and dust in the slots

Clean the contacts on the memory module

Test the memory in a different computer

Try different memory

 

Memory problems can also be caused by bad connection on the cpu. Take the cpu out and check for missing/damaged/bent pins, if you don't see any problems put it back in give it a good wiggle and move the socket lever back and forth a few times to loosen the contacts and remove any oxide layer.

You can just short the pins together with a screwdriver

Still having issue if take the caps and put them on the clear and boot it doesn’t beep but their is nothing on the display but if I put the caps on 1-2 it beeps any other ideas

Did you work through all the other suggestions? Also i just noticed on the picture you posted there is no battery installed on the motherboard. It should not make a difference but i'd put one in just in case.

Yeah I went through your suggests I buying a battery here soon so let see what that does

Ok, the next logical thing to test is the cpu. Same as the ram, different cpu in the board, cpu in a different board. But understandably this is not always possible, not many people have spare cpu's/motherboards lying around. You can get a compatible sempron 140 for $4.50 on ebay.

I do have some easier things you can try first though. 

 

Disconnect everything except what is needed to boot, no hdd's no peripherals, no fans(even the cpu fan) just the motherboard, cpu, gpu and power.

 

Try without the gpu, i know there's no integrated graphics but if could tell us something.

 

See what the battery does.

Not much, am3+ for the most part is backwards compatible with am3. If you give me the model number i can tell you if your cpu is supported.
