@Mbowen Also does it matter if i do it with everything plugged in including gpu cpu ram etc

It shouldn't. Just make sure you do have the CPU and RAM. If you have on-board graphics then you don't need the GPU.  The process shouldn't require you to remove anything from daily operation though.

You need them to be on the motherboard to boot into bios. And you need the gpu to display the bios to your display, since 3600 isn't an apu.

While I agree that because it doesn't have integrated graphics he will need to have the GPU installed, just because a CPU has IG doesn't make it an APU. APU's have dedicated cores specifically for graphics chips. Look at AMDs "A" series and 2200/2400G series architectures.

It should be fine. But, unless you're sure the version you're using is not stable, or there's new features in the new version, try not to mess with it.?

@Mbowen No as in updating the bios wiht a usb if i have already done it once is it safe to do it again?

I don't have a B450 tomahawk, but i have two similar MSI B450 pro carbon ac's mated to a 3600x and a 3700x, I've flashed the bios with bios flashback button numerous times. And it is fine

I experienced similar on both boards with both CPU's so I believe this is normal what I'm about to describe:

On both boards, it took 2 flashes for it to work the first time. The first time, I did the flash bare minimum, with power to cpu and motherboard connected (as per manual), and it appeared to work, but after assembling the whole computer, it would not post.

I then did another bios flash with the button and usb stick with a completely assembled computer. The trick this time was a cleared the cmos first via jumper, then did the flash. The computer posted into bios immediately after on restart. That was with the original beta 17 bios

When the beta 17 became non beta, and improved from a to ab, I flashed again via bios flashback button. Again it took 2 times before I could post. I'm not sure I will buy another MSI motherboard after this. It is kind of flaky

Are they running alright now though? Want a cheap 3600 and B450 but these issues put me off, if I can get it working then it's fine though.
