I need a new laptop and I need some suggestions. This laptop will primarily be used for studies however I want an half-decent dedicated graphics card for light gaming (anything from an MX150 to a 1050 Ti).

This laptop must have a great keyboard, a good screen (resolution doesn't matter, although it should be at least 300 nits), good build quality, and good battery life (8 hours?). Reliability and durability are also pretty important. For CPU, I want an 8th/9th Gen i7 with 6C/12T (like an 8750H). For RAM, 8GB of RAM is fine as long as I can throw in another 8GB into a dimm slot easily (as I want at least 16GB), but 16GB right out of the box would be much better. For storage, I want a PCIe SSD with at least 500GB of capacity, and an HDD is not needed (nor is it desired).

I don't want a Dell XPS as one of my friends has one, and I don't like the keyboard. I also don't want a MBP because it has a terrible keyboard. Right now, the ThinkPad X1 Extreme is my top pick, but the 1080p screen isn't amazing and battery life isn't strong (especially with the 4K screen).

My location is Canada. My budget is flexible, but I wanna keep it around CDN$2700 before tax.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks in advance!

@GeneXiS_X I'm tagging you because you're the LTT forum's laptop god.

I suggest the MSI GS65 from HIDevolution and in the laptop configurator choose "Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut + Fujipoly Extreme Thermal Pads", that small thermal upgrade decreses temps by around 15C which is a must in these small but powerful portable laptops. See: Custom Built MSI GS65 8SE Stealth-007 - 15.6" FHD 144Hz - i7-8750H - RTX 2060

Alternatively, check this one out as well: Custom Built ASUS ROG Strix Hero III G531GW-XB74 - 15.6" FHD 144Hz - i7-9750H - RTX 2070

If you email donald@hidevolution.com you might get a small discount. He was the salesman I dealt with before. HIDevolution has great quality control and customer service which increases the chances of you getting a laptop that works great out of the box.

Well seems like X1 Extreme / P1 (with FHD display) is the only choice if you prefer thin and light. Otherwise you might want to consider true mobile workstations like Thinkpad P52/P53, Latitude 7530/7540

Which one of these do you recommend, P1 or X1 Extreme (both with an 8750H and FHD display)? Thanks!

Both are the same besides Quadro GPU. Personally I would take the cheaper one (P1 sometimes on sale)

gen 2 is available though

Do you think I should wait for the price of the X1 Extreme Gen 2 to drop? It has the option of a 1080p 500 nits display (which I kinda want).

@GeneXiS_X

What do you think about the P1 Gen 2? I can get one of those with an i7 9850H, 16GB of RAM, Quadro T2000, 512GB PCIe SSD, and 1080p IPS 500 nit anti-glare display for C$2384 (it's a preconfigured model). There aren't any reviews on it yet, so I'm not sure if I should buy one.

Click this link and scroll down to models: https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-p/P1-Gen-2/p/22WS2WPP102

The preconfigured model I'm looking at is C$2384.10 (I mentioned the specs in the post above). The base price to configure this laptop is C$2807.10, which is more expensive than the preconfigured model I'm talking about.

Are there are major differences between the P1 Gen 1 and P1 Gen 2 (aside from specs)?
