How common is widescreen gaming? I was wondering what kind of monitor to get and was thinking if a 21:9 ratio would be the best idea. Also, how do I limit the framerate of games  to 100hz. I want to compare 100, 120 and 144hz while I am playing.

There is a difference between 100hz and 144hz, but no real noticable difference from 120 to 144hz.  As for wide screen gaming this means on youtube you will get black bars on the side.  Same with netflix and other videos.  So if you dont mind black bars which blow goat then we can help you get a good super wide screen.  So you still want 21:9 or you can do 16:9 .... Just for the game its full screen and desktop but your gonna have black bars and big too,, sorta fuked up that is.  Which is why I wont touch a super wide screen.

i have a wide screen monitor and i don't want to go back to a 16:9 monitor. yes you got black bars on the side of the screen but you got used to it. for youtube you got a extention for wide screen content. for netflix movies it is not recommended. but for gaming it is the best for content creation is also the best.
