Hello, everyone, I need help with my ram compatibility,  and I am currently using two 2GB DDR2 = 4GB on my current pc
and my motherboard is an " Acer fmcp7am "  it has 4 dual-channel
I also have an extra two 1GB DDR2 pc2-6400u but when I placed these extra RAM my computer just beeps and it doesn't startup
These two extra are from my other pc which got messed up when the power supply couldn't handle because of the GPU
So I took these two extra and tried placing it on my current one. And basically, it just beeps and won't startup.
I also placed it with the right slots. Yellow color slot 2GB ddr2 / Blue color slot 1GB ddr2

So I was wondering if these 1GB DDR2-6400u 800mhz are compatible with my current one or not?

or maybe it got fried when my other pc got messed up?

Do you think these 1Gb DDR2 ram compatible with my board? but it doesn't work because it's defective now?

thanks.

I uploaded some images so you'll get the idea, thanks.

It's possible the 1GB sticks are too fast to sync up with the existing RAM. easy way to see, pop out the existing 2 GB sticks, try to boot with the 1GB sticks, and see what gives.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

Both the 2GB and 1GB sticks are PC-6400 (e.g. DDR2 800 MHz), so they should be okay, frequency wise.

The only thing I am not too sure about are the memory timings / latency.

@Suba

Can you share a screenshot of the 'SPD' tab for your existing 2 X 2GB memory sticks?

Also which 2 X 1GB  set do you have; the Samsung set that you showed, or the Crucial?

Yes, I was pretty confident that both sticks are compatible, and I am using the Samsung 1GB 1rx8 DDR2 PC2-6400u
The crucial one was the recommended type of ram, Crucial site gave me since I used the site for checking my ram details.

Is my DDR2 not working anymore? because I am planning on buying a new 2x2 GB DDR2 PC2-6400 800mhz

Thanks for the reply I really appreciate it !

Are you sure that your 1GB RAM sticks aren't meant for AMD?
Back in DDR2 day AMD RAM didn't work on the Intel platform.

The 1GB stick ddr2 was previously placed on my other intel platform, now that desktop isn't working anymore and tried taking out the ram sticks and placed it on my current one which uses intel platform too

both previous and current machines are using intel processors

I am running on an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 (current)

Intel core 2 duos E6400 (Previous)

From the looks of it, the memory timings are different between the Samsung set, and the Nanya set that you already have in your PC.

It looks like the Acer motherboard is not able to automatically find/set the "happy medium" memory timings, so both sets can work together.

This is one of the frustrations of using an OEM (e.g. HP, Acer, DELL) motherboard.

Just to make sure, the Samsung set works on it's own?

Looks like the original 2 X 2GB can work on it's own, too.

The problem is when you combine the two...?
