Trying to come up with an editing desktop spec list for around $2000. My company does a lot of video, mostly interviews, company overviews & ads. We need to build a couple of PCs that will last for several years with growing video production. We use Premiere for the most part, but also Resolve.

Here is my parts list, from what I've gathered, gpu can really boost performance but only if you really go high end, which is the reason for the 1060 but please input if you know more specifics about this.

I know we could get silent performance with water cooling but don't have the time to properly maintain them in that respect.

Yeah that build looks pretty sweet, I'll definitely go with that Intel ssd instead. I'm familiar with Nvidia's naming sku, but not really amd, what would that card compare to? Also in theory a higher wattage psu would end up quieter under the same load, or is that not true?

how do you fetch footage?

is it from a server at the studio? or will it be stored locally on the machine?

We use GH4's & Canon 5D's right now, a lot of 4k. Everything is locally stored, that's the 2tb ssd, and then archiving on a hhd

better SSD for fetching an using footage.

is the archive outside of the machine or on the machine. i might reconfigure the build to have a 10gig networking card to have fast moving of footage.

It would just be using internal hhds, adding more as need be. When you say a better ssd I assume you mean in terms of speed?

In terms of speed aswell as latency to access files. It has a better cachesystem aswell as better memmorycells for longer endurance.

Instead of QLC it uses TLC.

Q meaning quad, which reffers to the number of layers.

T then meaning tri/tripple

The more layers the less endurance in the drive. Tho you would probably never run into the issue of running out writes on either drive.

Thanks for the input everyone! We got the desktops ordered and excited to get them built!

Here is the config we ended up with:

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Consoledotlog/saved/#view=HqVf99

That build is identical to the one linked in the OP. Is this what was ordered?

No I definitely took the advice & genuinely appreciate it, I didn't go with a lot of the things recommended for 2 reasons: While Ryzen has a lot of hype around it right now, I had already partially decided on Intel since I'm comfortable with it & in terms of support, Intel still has a larger base. Also the 3900x has been out of stock sooo... Second, a co-worker who has been at this company for longer than myself & has been building pcs for a while as well, was pushing for several of the components in that list and I wanted to give deference to him, especially since in terms of psu, ram, case etc, it's mainly a preference thing. And lastly don't take it the wrong way but, I did have a parts list already built and was looking for input mainly on that. I get absolutely that it may have looked like I just disregarded all the advice and did my own thing, but it wasn't solely my choice at all, I couldn't just go to my boss and say: 'here's a parts list I got from strangers on a forum'. Those lists might have been better, but when your talking a decent chunk of change to put down, we wanted something future proof in terms of both power & support.

And just to be clear, this isn't at all identical, yes it the same cpu, but of lot of other things changed

I have compared the links side by side, the build lists are identical in every way.

Same cpu.

Same sub-optimal cpu cooler. Really not adequate for an i9-9900K.

Same motherboard. One with onboard dual band WiFi and Bluetooth would have cost less and provided better VRM.

Same memory kit.

Same 1TB Samsung 970 Evo NVMe M.2 drive. Given the usage I would have suggested consideration of the higher endurance Samsung 970 Pro model instead.

Same 4TB WD Black.

Same MSI GTX 1660 gpu.

Same Enthoo Pro case. Did you consider a quiet non-windowed case like the Define C or Define R6 USB-C?

Same psu. A good choice.

Same Windows 10 license. Is there no need for bitlocker, domain join, etc.?

Same ML140 Pro case fans.

It might help if considered that yes, it is the same exact link... did I bother creating a new build list every time I wanted to change something? No I just updated the same list, the components would be the exact same because they are the same list. Literally every component changed except the case & windows.

Maybe don't listen to your co-worker in future, if he is the one who suggested that board and cooler for a 9900K.

So the link in the OP has the parts actually ordered? It's too bad that the full list wasn't posted for historical purposes. As it stands readers have no way of knowing the original build so the comments don't make a great deal of sense.

This is true, in the future I'll make sure to keep a copy of the original
