Hello guys,

I plan on building a small form factor case for up to 3000 CHF. I live in Switzerland so prices are a bit on the higher side here.

I have set the budget high because I want to have something futureproof that would last me a few years (is 4 years too optimistic?). I like to play the latest titles at 1440p 144Hz and like to have something that works well for VR for the coming future. I already have the monitor and an HTC vive.

I won't be streaming, but besides gaming I will use the pc for some light video editing, and multi-threaded simulations.

So I have come up with two builds

Intel Streacom DA2: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Lulou/saved/NzJNqs

Ryzen Dancase A4: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Lulou/saved/9C76RB

I have already bought the DA2 case few months ago as it had limited supply here, and as a no-compromise case I'm leaning more towards the first one. But with 3rd gen ryzen I'm questioning my decision in going with intel. If I want to go with ryzen I might as well cut down a bit on performance and go with something with a lower tdp which would allow me to shrink the case to Dan A4. But then I have heard building in Dan A4 is quite difficult and most builds I have seen end up making custom power cables (which I don't know how to :( )

This is my first build in a long time, so I have no idea what I'm doing :D
Any kind of advice would be appreciated.

Ryzen is the way to go.

You can save some money by going with a EX920 SSD instead.

TDP isnr really indicative of heat output. You will find the 3900x being a whole lot easier to cool than a 9900k.

Using the 12 core that seems completely reasonable.

Or wait for ASrock x570 and use the thunderbolt to use a thunderbolt dock. If that is up someone alley.

Yeah, I feel like buying 9900k atm is madness. 3900x seems too good to pass on.

But, is the cpu cooler NH-L9 really enough for 3900x? If it works then I would totally go with the Dan case.

Regarding the SSD, is the evo plus a waste of money? Unfortunately the HP model is hard to come by around here.

Thunderbolt sounds sweet. A dock would be very useful for a sff build. 3900x has not arrived here yet so I'm not in a hurry and can wait on that motherboard. Thanks for your advice so far :)
