The app asks for permission, I say yes, it then fails citing a denied permission.  Multiple (all that I tried) apps having this issue.  Can read from the card just fine.  Android 9.  If I check the permissions of these apps it even says they have write permission to the SD card.

Any ideas?

Do you mean you just can't write anything to the SD card? Of just app permission. If so what app?

Each app behaves a bit differently.  Some request permission, I click yes, then they claim I clicked no and ask again.  Some seem to think they already have permission (which they do) but attempting to write results in an error and nothing happening.  I've tried cx file browser, transmission, and the Xiaomi built in file browser

Try if you can write a file to the card. If it fails then the card is dead. I had an similar issue a few months back. Had to buy an new card. What card do you have?

I think you guys missed the part where I said I can read from it just fine :P  It's definitely not dead, but just for good measure I pulled it out of the phone and tested writing a file to it as well as running CrystalDiskMark (results below).  I tried info but as expected it's no "significant" enough to show up.  It's an ADATA 128 GB.  Performance is nothing exceptional but clearly working fine.

I'm rather sure it's a bug in Android, just not sure how to deal with it

edit: I should also add, trying to access it when it's in the phone with the phone plugged into the computer also acts the same way - can read fine but not write.

No that's the funny part. When my San disk died I also could read fine from the card. Windows also thought it could write. But writing just didn't work anymore. I will try those apps you've mentioned.

eh, don't worry about it.  There's been a turn of events and I don't think I really care about this problem any more...

+1 on the dead card. Had a Kingston 32Gb C10 with the same behaviour. I could read fine but new files were a bummer. and it performed quite well in the tests but the data of new files got corrupted almost on the spot. I dont want to question your intelligence with this suggestion but try to format it on Android itself and try it again to see if it solves. Also, Android sometimes freaks out with external storage devices due to permissions and r/w flags. Personally, ADATA is not one of my favourite microSD brands. But hey, if you got a good deal, why not?

As mentioned at this point I'm not so concerned with resolving this anymore, but I am too curious to let it go, and I think you all deserve answers too.  I have formatted it using the phone and can write to it once again.  I am currently transferring files to it and will see how it goes.  Plus, even though it was working for reads (and writes if done using the PC directly), on the off chance that there is something wrong with the card I would like to discover that sooner than later while it still has warranty.

@shadowownz @Wolly9102 @Master Disaster

As a followup to my post above, I've since had Spotify download about 30 GB of music and have been using it off and on since said post without issues.  This will be my last update unless something breaks again.  Still looking like an android bug (that is now resolved/worked around) and not a card failure to me but we will see.
