What media are you using to install SteamOS, is it an ISO on a optical media format, or a bootable USB or?!

It's a USB with all the files in the root

You need to boot from the USB, then when installing SteamOS you just select the drive you want to install it to.

What he said, but try both the generic flash disk and the UEFI flash disk for the boot order and see which one works would be my suggestion.

I'm not quite sure with USB booting but I would think that it would be exactly the same as booting from a DVD with an ISO. I don't know what seems to be the problem, can you not boot from the USB?

It says 'an operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system' but If I take my hdd out then it will have nowhere to install

I probably would've just put it on a blank DVD disc. It is a much easier solution. Knowing how you got the OS on the USB in the first place would be helpful too.

Start from the beginning.... Tell us everything you have done...

I put the files on a newly formatted USB, then plugged it in the new pc, fiddled with bios and got to the steam install main menu, and now It says that I need a cd-rom

when I downloaded the file it was a .zip I think, and so I copied the contents onto the USB, that's what Austin Evans video said to do
