Upgrade advice

Hi,

I've recently been looking into an upgrade for my pretty light pc. Rn, here's what I'm rocking with :

-i3 8100

-GT 1030 2G GDDR5

-8G DDDR4

-450W PSU

 

So, my biggest upgrade is probably gonna be my graphics card (even though I'm probably gonna grab another 8g stick of ram on the way), and I was thinking of something like a 1060 6g.

This build is meant to be used in games like GTA (Five M), R6 siege, Civs and light content creation. 

 

I was thinking that getting an upgrade on my CPU was also a good idea, but I have no clue of what to go for

 

My budget is around 400-500$

 

Any ideas ? ^^

How much does the 1060 6gb cost where you are? Usually the rx 580 8gb goes for less and offers slightly more performance with more vram.

For the CPU the only Intel CPU i'd suggest right now is the i5 9400F, it's pretty much the best in terms of price/performance if you can find it for around 150 dollars/euros

for gpu either get a used rx570 ~under $100 OR

new gtx 1660 non ti

Around here, the 1060, the 1660, the 570 ans the 580 will be around 250 to 300$. They are all good options, the fight is more about 1660 or 580 condidering their better performance.

Should I trade the 10% increase in raw performance for 2g VRAM ?

no, if they're the same price get the 1660 unless you plan to use freesync

And the  i5 9400F is 160 bucks, so it's complety within range, I'll look into a few benchmarks and consider it as option 1

but one question, aren't you french? Because i just checked on amazon.fr and the prices are pretty much like here in Italy, so the 1660 is quite more expensive than the 580

A friend of mine had the i3 8100 paired with an RX 560 4GB Radeon card. he had some minor bottlenecks in Battlefield V multiplayer.

He upgraded his CPU to an i5 9400f and his GPU with an RX 570 8GB. That was a couple of weeks back.

 

Based on that, I can tell you upgrading the GPU would allow you some more performance (in Nvidia terms GTX 1050Ti level), but for a true boost, you'd need to upgrade the CPU too. An i5 6-core minimally. 8 cores would do even better.

 

In the RX 570 - GTX 1060 3GB - GTX 1060 6GB - RX 580 - RX 590 range the RX 570 offers the most performance for the lowest money (great fps per dollar ratio).

But, if you can, I'd recommend the RTX 1660.

 

Don't forget to flash the BIOS to the newest version before switching i3 8100 to some i 9000 series.
