GPU Upgrade

sirlamchops25

Recently my GTX 1080 broke due to an AIO cooler leakage, and due to budget constraints, I had to 'panic' buy a 1060 3GB (for $75, not horribly expensive). However, as I had a 1440p 165hz monitor, I would ideally like to take advantage of the specs. I am definitely looking to purchase a high end GPU in around a month or two, which leads me to this forum once again for yalls advice.

I am currently set on getting a RTX 2070 super for a few reasons:

1) G-Sync compatible with my monitor

2) RTX card features - ray tracing, DLSS etc

3) from what I've seen, a decent 2070 super has close performance to an RTX 2080, which currently for me is around $200 more expensive than a 2070

I know the RX5700XT has very competitive performance to the RTX 2070 super at a lower price point, but from what I've seen, the driver support currently is not that great (hopefully will improve down the line) and the reference cooler is not superior thermally to a third party cooler from say ASUS or EVGA. It is also worth to mention that thermals and PC longevity is a very important factor to me, and I will very likely be switching my case, fans, motherboard, and CPU cooler for futureproofing for years to come.

So ultimately the question is, for around the $500-550 price point, is it worth buying an RTX 2070 Super over any other high performance card. Thanks in advance

depending on the game and the settings, I've gotten a pretty steady 1440p 165Hz with a 1080

All of the benchmark videos etc Youtubers post are with max settings, and I am willing to sacrifice some image quality for better performance

Ultimately my goal is to run games at 1440p with a decent refresh rate for a better gaming experience
