Also, it depends on what you want in terms of noise. Some people dont mind the noise, as long as it is constant. Others prefer no noise in a no workload usecase, and controlled noise in big workload case

So if I dont want noise I put it to system and if I dont mind noise i put it to cpu?

Kind of, just remember system doesnt mean no noise, it just means more consistent fan curves as the temperature inside the case is not changing as drastically as the CPU temperature is.

Also, you need to setup the fan curves yourself and check temperatures. No noise is not good if your CPU overheats and goes into speed throttling. So the whole idea is:

  • You want something easy? Put it on CPU and forget about it, your hardware will take care of fan speed. Downside is fan speed is subject to a lot of change in that mode.
  • You want something consistent, but never silent? Setup a fan curve for you desired case temp and make sure the CPU is not overheating with the chosen fan speed. This option is what i use, although my setup is overgeared in regards to cooling, so its practically always silent.

The sys / cpu setting refers to which temps the fan curve reacts to.

What are your specs? If you're using 4pin pwm fans, use pwm for that header. If you're using 2-3pin fans, use dc.

4 Corsair ML120 case fans

2 140mm Noctua CPU cooler fans

They're all 4pin pwm fans and you should be using pwm to power them.

The cpu cooler and fans near it should be set to follow the cpu temps. The other fans can either follow sys or cpu temps depending on your preference.

Which menu are you looking at?

In Hardware Monitor, there should be individual fan controls for each header.

When I go into hardware monitor there's no option to for specific fan control, its only for all the fans.

Can you post a photo of what you see?

You can select each header at the top right.

Ohhhh. So should I do my cpu fans to cpu and my case fans to system?

You can do whichever you like. I was referring to those as buttons. You can click on them and they each have their individual page for settings.

But when I choose the different fans for either CPU or system it only lets me choose the same option for all the fans

Each refers to their respective header with the same label and sends the signal to the fan plugged into that header. You don't choose between fans for each header outside of which fan you plug into which header.

FYI, you can use the Edit button to add in more text instead of making another post.
