I have a friend who is not so great with computers, and he has a Alienware 17R4, with the Nvidia 1070. After about two-ish years of use, he ran into some problems with thermals, with the idling temperatures being around 60ish C, and the computer throttling heavily while gaming, often temps up in the high 90s. Just last week, we replaced the thermals paste on both the CPU and GPU. When we were removing the old stuff, we noticed that it was dried on to the CPU and the GPU, requiring quite a bit of cleaning with iso alcohol. We tested the computer afterwards with some VR apps such as H3VR and some other games, and the PC seemed to be fine, with most temps being in the 60's. Today, he messaged me and said that the temps were still in the high 90's while gaming, and still throttling, while the idle temps were still not as bad. Can someone shed any light on this? Is it normal for the temps to be that high? Or should they be much lower?
