This thread is nothing major I was just looking for suggestions for my rig. Currently it has a i7 6700 (non K) an AsRock Z170 Pro4 motherboard (wasted on a non K I know but it is very pretty) 8GB Corsair LPX 2X4GB, Asus Strix GTX 970, CoolerMaster 212 evo with 2 120mm NZXT fans instead of the one that came on the cooler with its gawdy red LEDs, EVGA 600w PSU, 40GB SSD for OS and nothing more, 120GB SSD for programs, 500GB drive for games and another for media and it’s all wrapped together in a nice all black NZXT H500 case. Looking for suggestions to look at so as to keep it running smoothly or better. I don’t think it’s worth upgrading my mobo or CPU as its not an editing rig or streaming system it is literally a gaming and media machine at this point with some light audio recording on the side. Plays everything I want in high settings and a lot of stuff in ultra but prices are dropping at the moment for stuff like RAM and even GPUs so that’s not out of the question. If it’s worth upgrading I’ll look in to it but if I get comments saying it’s fine as it is I think I’ll just leave it alone and enjoy it. The thing is really pretty to look at. Got 2 orange fans at the front and then 2 LED strips across the top and back which I’ve set to blue and the colours compliment each other nicely. First rig I ever tried my hand at making look good so either way I’m proud of it, though the blasted sleeved cable for my mobo doesn’t sit perfectly straight in the case but nevermind. Suggestions folks?

In all honesty, i would first respond with 'it's just fine', but thats primarily stated because you yourself said it can run anything you wish and you really don't need to upgrade it since it fits your needs.

If you ask me, the only thing i would upgrade is the harddrives (and maybe memory). 40gb is technically enough for the OS, which i initially thought too even tho i bought a 60gb one. Since then i have noticed it has some drawbacks, you need some space for updates, space for pagefile etc. So i would upgrade the OS drive to a 120gb at the least. This will also save you the hassle of having to remap the 'my documents' and 'my downloads' to a drive with more space

Gamesystem: X3700, 32GB memory @3200mhz, GTX1080 Hybrid

Unraid system: Epyc 7352, 24/48, 96GB ECC buffered @2666mhz, 2x GT710, GTX1050Ti

The only components I would consider upgrading in this build is the RAM, SSD storage and the GPU. The CPU is still more than capable for gaming and light audio editing as you mentioned. I would upgrade RAM to 16GB, get a bigger SSD for the OS and software (250GB are pretty cheap now) and then get a better GPU to keep it running for a long time. Nothing here really needs an urgent upgrade so it's up to you what you want to upgrade.
