Hello, i recently bought a new budget gaming laptop (ASUS TUF FX705DT) that has a Ryzen 7-3750H and a GTX 1650 4GB with 16gb ram (dual channel). Now, on benchmarks (cinebench r15, 3dmark, etc.) this laptop performs almost identical to my 5 year old rig with an i7 4790 and an rx 480. On the cpu part, on 3dmark the laptop has a higher score. However, in gaming i noticed (with nothing running in the background in both systems) that my laptop more often than not has higher cpu usage compared to my i7, with some games like mass effect andromeda pushing it to 100% and causing a "huge" bottleneck (ps. both cpus are running at around 3.7ghz). Any ideas?

Edit: i tried with all the laptop settings, silent, balanced and turbo (with a cooling pad) no change, well besides the silent were my fps dropped by 50% :P (and no the cpu or gpu are not overheating or are power limited)

3750H is a 4/8 cpu, with a max boost clock of 4ghz.

4790  is a 4/8 cpu, with a max boost clock of 4ghz

Although both are max rated at 4ghz, their base clock varies quite alot.

the intel has a 3,6ghz base clock, where the amd has a base clock of 2,3ghz.

the TDP of the intel is 84watts, where the AMD is 35watt's.

So all in all, there are quite a few differences.

My geuss is that the cpu in your desktop is more properly cooled making it able to perform at higher speeds for longer periods of time than the mobile variant of AMD.

Gamesystem: X3700, 32GB memory @3200mhz, GTX1080 Hybrid

Unraid system: Epyc 7352, 24/48, 96GB ECC buffered @2666mhz, 2x GT710, GTX1050Ti

My i7 is almost always at 3.83ghz with no drops or increases. The 3750 hasn't really dropped below 3.6 while gaming

Go to PC Settings > Privacy > Background Apps

then uncheck all the background apps that run automatically in the background EXCEPT the system utilities which the laptop needs for its functionality (ie. Realtek Audio Console) or any other app that has to do with your laptop. The rest need to be turned off as they may cause increased CPU cycles and thus increasing the temps even at idle

Also if you use Google Chrome, to to its advanced settings and uncheck the box which says allow chrome to run in the background
