Adding old SSD to new computer

I have a question thats probably easy to answer but I still need to know.

 

Can I take my SSD out of my current computer and place it on a new build to keep the stuff i have and to not have to buy windows?  or should i just do a backup onto a new ssd, or just not be cheap and buy new windows licence.
