Media/Plex Server help

I'm using a second windows machine that I built for host game servers for me and my friend but also decided to use it as a plex server to get more use out of it, the problem that I'm having is it is a micro-atx build and I only have space for 1 HDD in the case, my question is what would be the best way to expand the storage for plex, will plex recognize a NAS drive as something that it can read off of? Or will I have to use a external hard drive bay of sorts? Thanks in advance for suggestions and help :D

Plex should be able to read a NAS drive, I am currently building a plex server with a 14TB NAS Hard Drive, I was wondering this as well and through research, I concluded that it very much should work. Hope this helps.

Edit: make sure you have good enough hardware for transcoding media

Plex will work with any drive it can access, whether it's local or a network share.

Fantastic, I way over built this system it's also meant to host game servers and in worst case scenario be a backup gaming computer for myself. Appreciate the article answers the question perfect. Now if your building a plex server yourself have you thought about setting up a cloud backup for it? Because that is the other thing that I'm struggling with right now. Between my uncle and me (he's a media hoarder) we have about 30TB of media and I want that backed up preferably to the cloud if possible. Currently the only service that seems like it will work for me is BackBlaze but I'll have to plug the NAS in every now and then to update it since it doesn't support NAS drives.

What leads you to believe that a NAS drive is somehow unique and that it won't work in some applications? A NAS drive is very much the same as any other sata drive with the added features for sustained 24/7 operation is there a use case that prevents you to use a NAS drive

Edit: Ah I see I just googled it Backblaze does not allow it I thought we were talking about compatibility my bad

I have my Plex Server running on a Laptop. All the Videos and stuff is on my NAS. Plex works fine in that way. Id highly suggest picking up a NAS, a 2 or 4 bay will probably be fine. I have a 4 bay Qnap unit myself.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
