B250 chipset motherboards will require a BIOS update to be compatible with 9th gen Intel processors. Won't work without the BIOS update. If you have an 8th gen Intel CPU you can install that and download the latest BIOS from the motherboard manufacturers website. Once the BIOS is updated the new CPU should work.

If you don't have an 8th gen CPU to perform the BIOS update then either ask the store you bought it from to perform the update for you (if a local store) or return the motherboard to the store you bought it from and swap it for a compatible motherboard, preferably Z390 since you have an unlocked K series CPU.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

No. BIOS update needs to be performed on the motherboard itself.
