What is a raid setup?

ZBVirus24

Hey guys!

umm... I can't understand what's exactly a raid setup...

(Like how it works and how to do it. I do know it pairs multiple drives together I am not stupid lol. But like, What does it do...).

Plus, Can you do a raid 10 on 2 drives?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thx!

It splits the data into small chunks(often around 16k or so) and spreads it out across drives.

Did you look up the normal raid levels?

Setup depends on hardware and software, hardware raid cards have a bios that you can use, you can also do it in software. Software raid is all one in the os.

It's essentially taking more than one hard drive and having them act a single hard drive. Certain configurations allow for you to have more hard drive space than a single drive, give you quicker file transfer speeds, or for redundancy for storing the same data across multiple physical drives.

Here's a few links from TechQuickie. Both old but still relevant!

I was watching the first one as I was posting this...

But I wanted to know how it works.

what do you mean how it works?

This is a piece of software that takes the io request, determines what drive the data is on, then reads from the drives with the data, then sends it to the app thats needs the data.
