Hey all. I need different opinions on an issue that I recently encountered.

I got a new 970 evo plus last week and I installed it correctly in my hero xi motherboard. When I went to download a game file, my computer completely froze and a few times I got bsod of whea uncorrectable error and clock watchdog error. Now I have never previously tried any overclocking, and only had turbo boost enabled. Even uninstalling the evo and downloading a file on the hero xi with my hdd I was getting bsod.

I have recently bought a z390 strix and using my old hard drive and everything is fine and weary to buy another 970 evo that it might destory this new motherboard. It could have just been an unfortunate pre-occurring problem that arose after I stalled the 970 evo, but who knows.

What do you all think caused this problem?

BSOD is usually 3 things.

1) CPU not enough voltage/ clocked too high

2) Ram incorrect timing/ voltage

3) corrupt software

I am ruling 3 out because the chance of this happening on a modern machine is almost next to zero.

When you changed your motherboard, I think the bios was set wrong. You might want to

#1. check the cooling/ vcore

#2 load optimized bios in the setting.

I have a feeling that you bought a used mobo and the bios was not reset to its factory default.

It was a used motherboard and I didn't reset the bios until all that started happening. but after i reset everything the bsod kept happening. I also did the memtest on memory and it came back normal

is your ram on XMP? disable it.

run prime 95 blend and tell me the temps after 30 minutes of operation

No XMP on ram. I don’t have that Mobo installed anymore. I bought a new one and it works fine. I wanted some people’s perspective on what may have caused the issue. So far a new motherboard and boot SSD has fix the problem.

good stuff. I am guessing the previous owner spilt water on it. So there was a short of some sort. I was going to ask you for small physical damages. It prolly occured near the ram slot in the back of the board.
