r9 290

i found a reference r9 290 that someone wants to sell im just wondering if my fx-6300 could handle it or would it bottle neck?

In any system, there is bound to be a bottleneck here or there, the FX6300 is pretty decent so I don't foresee a problem here. Look at my 3rd rig, I have a HD7970 paired with an old X9650, games run pretty well since the CPU, though a bottleneck, is still fast enough to keep framerate playable.

CPU bottlenecks are so rare these days... My 290 is doing pretty well on PCIe 2.0 mobo with Q6600

 

btw the noise is unreal and forced me to move the rig in another room unitl the waterblock gets here

it's really hard to give a definite answer to this question. It is highly dependent on the cpu intensivity of the game and how the game is coded. Certain operations can favor single threaded performance, while others favor multi-core configurations (like battlefield for instance)

 

Games with intensive physics will probably be somewhat bottlenecked, but I don't think you will see much difference in most games.

 

You will see improvement with any sort of GPU upgrade. you will also see an improvement with a better processor (though probably a smaller one)

 

bottom line: Impossible to say for sure, but a fx-6300 won't stop a r9-290 from being an absolute beast
