Unstable ramdisk?

samuel

Up until two weeks ago a owned a Phonem II 975. A beast of a chip, very hungry with voltages. Having 14 GB of ram, I used to make myself a 12 GB Ramdisk using Primo's software for Chrome and Firefox cacheing, windows temps folders and IDM temporary folder. The actual space it took rarely exceded 2 GB and always came back to like 500 MB. (The Ramdisk empty space is always available to OS for normal use.)

Upgraded to FX 8320. Tried to fill the ramdisk not long ago. Total Instability. If somehow I managed to copy a large file to it, it becomes unreadable. I installed Windows 7, tried AMD's ramdisk solution, same exact thing: Windows 8.1 gives me frozen everything but the mouse and after first restart some "user profile folder unreadable" error. Windows 7 seems more stable but gets somehow slow and I can feel clearly that something not ok.

My RAM setup is stable. There is no difference in having 1.28v or 1.65v ram voltage. Tried OCCT, Windows Memory Diagnoatic, Intel Burn Test. I did check my ram stability with memtest86 when I had the phenom. (left PC on overnight)

There is no problem with my SSD either. But it seems that all the storage gets locked and unstable when filling up a ramdisk. Tried AMD official sata drivers and same thing. Same thing happens even when having a single dimm installed.

Does any FX CPU owner have the same problem? Oh and it's not like"...what should I do, I cannot use my PC?",  I'm just curiouse if that's a common problem or there is an specific problem with my hardware.

To be clear: a 3 mb mp3 file sometimes gets corupted after copying to that disk. But a 4GB+ file ALWAYS gets corrupded+ instables the whole system. There should be enough ram left for OS so this not the problem here.

Sounds like a bug with the software you use. You're not going to get much help from here tbh.

sounds like the "usable memory addresses" are not clear to use and instead of alert,

just move the functioning bit to next best address. in XP that was fine, but after Win7,

you had to have a user memory address; which really can foul things up.

are you having anything loading into memory before the RAMDisk is created on bootup?

you'll have to look into the .BAT, .ini, and autoexec.sys. for legacy boot installs, too.

these do create some memory address issues.

That's a bit of alien talk to me! Tanks for your answer! It does not matter if the ramdisk is booted from a image file or created as a temporary, reboot vulnerable disk. Pretty much all the memory is "in cache" and "in use" after a 6+ hours of usage. Right after reboot, there is about half of memory totally free, wich will fill up in time because of superfech. Autoexec.sys lookup is too much for me right now., .ini files ar too many to check them all and the .bat ...well it's @Echo is OFF so that may be the reason for craching into my Ramdisk.

Jokes aside, I moved all the cache folders to my very fast Toshiba HDD for better SSD endurance.
