Hi,

just got my pc setup specs,

i5 8400

MSI gtx 1070ti non overclocked

16gb ram corsair

I have a question about gpu temps and gpu getting hot. this is my first timw building a pc and i never had a gpu. My question is when i run a game is it normal for the gpu backplate to become hot like hot enought to cook an egg on it. my gpu gets to like 74c. im playing fortnite on it and is this normal. thanks

That is pretty normal yeh. If u want to lower the temp you could try several things:

Undervolt (give the card less voltage, this will decrease temps pretty good, my rx 480 went from around 70c to highest 63c. This will also give you a little fps boost too in some games, i got around 4-20 more fps.)

Custom fan curve (instead of auto, this can help a lot. My rx 480 ran at 80c with auto, when i changed to a custom fan curve it ran at 60-72c)

Try Changing thermal paste (if it is a used gpu u bought, this may be the case. If you bought it new, then dont do this since the thermal paste should be good, AND this may void your warranty since u need to take the gpu apart.)

I would try to add a custom fan curve first of all, then decide if u want to try undervolting (undervolt shouldnt void your warranty at all. but look it up if u want to know 100%)

Seems normal. Backplate should be hot because there’s no way to actually dissipate the heat. Could put a fan on it though.
