Hey, I am looking to get a keyboard for my birthday in a couple of weeks.

Things I am looking for in a keyboard.

  • Red Lighting is a must.(Entire setup has red lights)
  • Mechanical
  • Prefer a keyboard with media keys (volume, Play/pause/next/previous)
  • Prefer UK layout but could get used to US layout
  • Typing around 40% of the time and gaming the other 60% (getting into web development and coding, so typing will increase overtime)
  • Maximum price £120

Been looking for sometime now, and like the look of the Corsair K70 (Black, with MX Reds), If you have this keyboard what is it like ? (please let me know the bad points as well as the good)

Is the K70 a good choice or are there any better options ?

Any and all help is much appreciated. Thanks :D

k70 is amazing but the red lights are only available with mx reds which aren't good for typing. If you can wait fr the mx rgb keyboards. Mx blue / brown with any color lights you want.

I do not think there is a silver k70 with red lights but I have the black k70 with red LEDS/cherry MX reds and its so awesome and I reccomend it for everything. Its all around amazing and has really nice media keys.

Yea I can agree with that. I have reds and typing is perfectly fine with me but I game 80% of the time anyway.

One of my friends loves typing on his reds. Actually prefers it to the other MX switches.

It all comes down to personal preference.

Ducky Shine 3 with MX Browns (Tenkeyless if you can't stretch your budget) would do for you and meet all of the requirements :)

just googled it, and wow its so beautiful. looks like it will also cost a lot. Unfortunately I cannot wait, as some of the keys on my current keyboard keep sticking, not because they are sticky, but because they got damaged.

Sorry. It looks like it will be in the $150-$200 price range. If you cant wait get a corsair k70 or ducky shine 3

Yep you are right. Looked at so many K70 videos yesterday could have sworn I saw a silver K70 with red LEDs, but going through my history there isn't one.  :(

Oh well, the black one looks nice as well, and would fit more into my color scheme.

How long did it take you to get used to the Cherry MX Reds ? I am going from using a membrane keyboard, for the last 4 years, and an extremely old one before that.

Thinking about it, once Watch Dogs / Titan Fall / Destiny / The Division, comes out I will probably go up to 75% gaming and 25% typing. I will get used to it eventually. Took me a day to get used to my logitech G110, and a week to get used to a french keyboard. Main reason I am changing the G110 is i press to lightly as it is, and with a few keys getting stuck, they don't move at all.

Also if I struggle to do loads of typing on it, I can easily buy a cheap keyboard just for typing.

Trust me. If you are coming from a membrane keyboard you will have no problem adjusting to this awesome keyboard. I did the same thing and I could not be happier. IT really depends on preference but cherry MX red switches are my favorite out of all the ones I have ever tried for gaming and even typing. Some people say Reds are annoying to type on but thats just their own opinion. Even if you were typing 50% of the time and gaming 50% of the time I would still reccomend this keyboard for the awesome build quality and high quality LEDs. Out of all keyboards I have tried the k70 is by far my favorite and Im not just saying that because I own one or im a corsair fanboy, Im saying that because I had a wide variety of keyboards that I tried out in person and this is the one that stood out to me in all ways! :)
