I have G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-2400C15D-16GTZR 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 and one of the stick keeps dropping. My PC will boot cycle until it comes up with the screen that you usually see when you first turn on a newly built system. On that screen it says there is only 8GB of ram which I have 16GB. Then it will continuously boot cycle until I remove the faulty ram stick. I know it is not the slot on the motherboard as the other stick works in any slot and the faulty one causes my PC to boot cycle no matter which slot. I sent it away to PC Case Gear in Australia where I bought it but their testing shows no faults. Does anyone know what the problem may be then?

Take the stick out, blow the slot, put it back in, press firmly on the ends.

It could also be a bent pin on your CPU/Socket. Depending what pin is bent it can cause a certain slot/slots to drop out.

Take the stick out that's misbehaving, leave it out, and move a different stick to that slot.

What memory config are you running? (2x8gb, 4x8gb etc). Leaving a stick JUST in that slot would be a good way to see if your motherboards memory controller is on its way out.

On the bright side, Asus has an AMAZING return policy on products still in production, if you contact their support email (DO NOT RMA) they will likely just send you a packing label and send you a new one right away. Back on LGA 2011 I had a motherboard come with 4 of the 6 SATA ports DOA, they sent me a new one, let me use the old one while the new one was in the mail (Canada, 5+ days) and send the old one back when I got the new one. Note though that they requested my CC info incase I didn't send the old one back.

I am running 2 x 8GB. And so what your saying is to leave the 'good' stick in the slot of the 'faulty' stick to test the slot. The thing is that the faulty ram stick doesn't work in a slot that the good one does and has forever so how can it be the memory controller?

A memory controller can be temperamental instead of just "dead" as you can see if a stick is dropping out just once in a while.

But seeing as your PC refuses to boot with just the stick in any slot, I'd look towards contacting G.Skill and seeing if they can exchange the ram that's acting up. Do you have any friends in your local area in the gaming community? Perhaps see if you can have one come over with their ram to load up all slots with theirs to see if it's a memory controller issue, or if it's the RAM.

I've heard nothing bad about G.Skils return process, but again, see if you can find a support email and just email them explaining what's going on and see if they can exchange just 1 stick for you so you're not out a system while you wait for the RMA process.

Yeah it only does it once in a while. I will see about contacting G.Skill.
