I am trying to update my windows 10 machine and I am getting the error code 0x8007042c. this issue is preventing me from updating using the search function, logging into windows store/xbox app, and the Ethernet symbol is missing from the taskbar.

Go to the Control Panel (NOT Settings), Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings (or Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections in the top location bar) and verify your ethernet adapter is even there. If so, can you still do normal things involving a network connection?

yes I see the Ethernet connection in network adapters but it only says enabled but there's still no actually icon in the taskbar

or try updating network drivers

that would involve windows update which isn't working at the moment which is also apart of the issue

Found this fix with a quick google search:

 

1.) Start a run box with Windows + R

2.) Type services.msc and hit Enter or OK

3.) Find the Windows Update, Windows Event Log, and Remote Procedure Call and ensure they are running (if not start them)

4.) Hit Apply and OK

Have you restarted your computer (sounds dumb but fixes a lot of issues)

yeah several times too

Another service to check is Windows Firewall (using steps I mentioned prior). I'm actively trying to find fixes as well so bare with me

im also running the Microsoft Safety SCanner 1.0.300.0 to see if it turns anything up

Alright. If you have any antivirus software you should remove that as well and after you can update you can reinstall.

Then I don't know whats wrong. Keep searching the web for the error code and try if any of that works
