Ram help

Hi.

 

I have 16gb of DDR4 3200Ghz and for some reason when I put an xmp profile it makes my CPU go above its turbo boost speed.

 

It may be harmful for the cpu and I was wondering if anyone knew a way which would prevent this (ASUS Bios)

it won't hurt the cpu unless it affects the voltage of the cpu or the temperature is way too high

generally i'd say it's safe below or around 1.4v but i'm on amd currently. 1.5 or over is too high

@Derrk How do I see the voltage? Is it inside the Bios?

 

If it is high do I immediately change back to default?

If you've turned on an XMP profile and left everything else go, you have nothing to worry about. Nothing will be damaged, even in the long term. People daily drive these CPU's (the K version that is) at and above 5Ghz which requires well more voltage than you're seeing currently, or will ever see for that matter.

Yes, set it and forget it. That's the point of XMP.

@TempestCatto Its sits around 1.3 on the motherboard and 1.5 on the ram is this ok as well as 4.20 to 4.60 cpu speed I manged to turn up to 3000ghz

If you didn't set anything manually, and simply just enabled XMP, everything will still be AUTO. So you'll be fine.

It said do I want to change intel settings on cpu or something like that I said no and it just went XMP profile 1

You would know if there's a problem if you have stability issues. Like I said, if the only thing you touched is XMP you have nothing to worry about. If you're still that worried, you could also reset the CMOS and just not touch anything in the BIOS.

Everything looks normal.

@TempestCatto Yo, its going to around 1.38 now is still ok? My temp increase a bit though ( sits around 45c when gaming now its 55-60c)

It will go up and down with usage unless you force it to something in the BIOS. Everything is still fine.
