I dont have any problem with this, its just an little idea ive been thinkin bout.

EDIT: this may be a stoopid idea, just so ya know. :)

I bought an xfx rs rx 480 and its great, but not the heatsink and cooling. Very loud and the only way of keeping it under 80c when playing games (like minecraft with shaders, dauntless and destiny 2) is to undervolt it, but its still loud and the fans on it aint the best either. My pc is quiet loud so you can easily hear it from another room if ive been playing for a long time. I know there are a xfx rx GTR 480 with MUCH better heatsink on it etc but i was so foolish to do no research before i bought this gpu.

I also have an old Radeon sapphire hd 7850 that i dont use, and i wouldnt really say the heatsink looks better and all, but i feel like it would be a cool project to transfer the hd7850 heatsink to the rx 480. It seems to fit in the holes too, so i dont need to worry bout that, tho the plastic could probably be in the way.

Anyways, do yall think this could be an cool idea? If not, do you know of any other kind of heatsink that could fit on my rx 480?

The HD 7850 heatsink is probably worse. If you were thinking it was better due to lower temps on the HD 7850, that's because it was easier to cool.

I'm not sure what would be a good aftermarket cooler besides a custom loop and I'd recommend saving up for a better graphics card instead if possible.

Thanks for the reply. And no, i didnt think it was better due to lower temps. I do know about Arctic coolers, that are compatible for rx 480. Tho i dont know if they mean ONLY the refrence model or all models.

It seems like the Accelero Mono Plus should fit and leave room for some direct vrm cooling which is probably needed to some extent.

It doesn't look like the stock vrm heatsink would fit though so you might want to strap your own fans or heatsinks onto it.

Got this to replace the notoriously bad cooler of an XFX RX 480GB RS card. The card was temperature throttling (approaching 90°C) even on stock clocks, undervolted, on a very well ventilated room and case. For refference, I had an eVGA mini GTX 1060 there, overclocked to the max, running less than 77°C in that same PC.

This thing is a monster. With a very mild overclock (haven't had the time to dive into it) of 1300MHz, running Valley and 3DMark stress tests for a couple of hours, max temperature was 63°C. That's roughly a 27°C improvement! Add to that that it's completely silent even when running at 100%. I also found that the VRAM modules were not cooled at all other than direct airflow from the fans on this particular card, so the VRAM heatsinks should add to that cooling capabilities.
