CPU copper block scratch

So happy with how my package was treated, because my CPU block has a easily detectable by a fingernail scratch in the block - luckily towards the very outside of where the IHS is sitting.  I am also using TG Kryo as thermal paste so Im likely okay there for "filling" the scratch, but - at this point (since my pagodas still haven't arrived and that's what is now holding up my loop - that and fan splitters) I figured I should try to learn to lap the scratch out.

 

However - couple questions.

 

It is literally on the outside of the IHS but potentially barely on the CPU IHS.  Is this something to worry about with TG Kryo (its not a gouge, but is a scratch you can feel with fingernail) - as its not extruding up from the block (if that makes sense) as the scratch didn't push metal up.  So I don't even have to hit it once with a piece of sandpaper (going to anyways lol).

 

If I do decide to lap, I have to do the whole thing - is it worth reducing the copper thickness at all (thinking best thermals here) over a scratch?

I wouldnt worry about it personally. It wont be enough to do any type of harm and its the reason for thermal paste to fill in those gaps and scratches to transfer the heat with.

Sounds good, Im always time limited on DIY stuff so I will take this advice.
