Upgrades?

Hello, I'm curious what u guys think would be best to upgrade first.

 

Current rig:

i5 2500K @4,4ghz

Geforce GTX 1050 2gb slightly OC

2x4gb Corsair Valueselct 1600mhz ram

 

Now my question, what should I upgrade. Should I first upgrade my CPU to a Ryzen 5 2600 with new mdb and ram, or upgrade my GPU to a 1660 ti. Thanks for your responds (Currently playing GTA V without shadows on normal setting with average 70 fps. Cpu usage 90%)

 

My CPU is (on full load with P95) running at a maximum of 65 degrees celsius.

What do you mean with ´Upgrade the platform first´. And, That Ryzen 3000, will it be expensive, 6 cores,8 cores etc.

First of all I would wait for the new Ryzen 3000 CPUs, since they are going to have a huge performance increase over the 2000 series if AMD is to be believed.

 

With that in mind it is probably best to first go for a new GPU.

 

But as you already said that your CPU usage is on 90%, it won't be that much of an improvement.

Your 2500K will bottleneck the 1660ti, and if you were to go for a 2600 your 1050 will bottleneck the new CPU. So pick your poison.

 

Waiting for Ryzen 3000 and going for a GPU first is what I would do.

Platform generally means mobo, cpu and ram. I'd wait to see if we get b550 boards, and then get one of the cheaper 6 cores (I think they're gonna be around 200)

You'll get a more significant gain out of upgrading that CPU, however, as you may know it's far more costly. Ryzen 2600 will serve you quite well, especially in GTA 5, but just keep in mind that Ryzen 3000 is coming out July 7th so you may want to wait for that.
